Los Rojiblancos: In The Beginning
On This Day In 1903, three Basques students living in Madrid founded Club Atlético de Madrid. The club was originally founded as Athletic Club Sucursal de Madrid. These founders saw the new club as a youth branch of their childhood team, Athletic Bilbao who they had just seen win the 1903 Copa del Rey Final in the city. Since inception, they have won a total of 34 trophies, making them the third most successful club in Spanish football history. Atlético’s home kit is red and white vertical striped shirts, with blue shorts, and blue and red socks. This combination has been used since 1911.
