MICHEL PLATINI: His Humble Beginnings
On This Day In 1973, 17-year-old French midfielder Michel François Platini made his professional debut for Association Sportive Nancy-Lorraine in a 2-1 win over Nimes Olympique. During his time with the club, he scored the only goal in the 1977/1978 Coupe de France final and won two French Player of the Year awards.
Platini also established himself as a French international while at the club and went on to achieve numerous team and individual accolades after his departure from Nancy. Platini spent seven years(1972-1979) with Les Chardons(a nickname for AS Nancy), netting 127 goals in 213 games. He also captained the French side.
