On This Day In 2017, Chelsea won their fifth Premier League title, and sixth English title, with two matches to spare following a 1–0 away win over West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns. Thanks to Michy Batshuayi’s 82nd minute strike. With this, the Blues became the first club to win the English top-flight title on a Friday since Arsenal at Anfield in 1989. Chelsea manager Antonio Conte became the fourth Italian manager to win the English top-flight title after Ancelotti, Roberto Mancini and Claudio Ranieri. Batshuayi’s late strike meant that a Belgian player has scored the title-deciding goal in each of the past three Premier League seasons (Batshuayi vs West Brom in 2016-17, Eden Hazard vs Tottenham in 2015-16 and vs Crystal Palace in 2014-15).
