Tottenham Hotspur Forward Wins Prestigious EPL Award
Tottenham Hotspur winger Son Heung-min has been named Premier League Player of the Month for October, the first time he has won the honour in three and a half years. The 28-year-old South Korean forward has made a great start to the 2020-21 season, netting eight goals and making two assists in eight league games. Four of those strikes came in the month of October, including in Spurs’ sensational 1-6 away win at Manchester United when the former Bayer Leverkusen scored two and set up another. He also scored in wins over West Ham and Burnley to be named Player of the Month for the third time in his career, having previously triumphed in September 2016 and April 2017.
The North London outfit have not had a winner in the award since Lucas Moura won the accolade in August 2018. Son surpassed seven other nominees to the October honour, with team-mate Harry Kane another of those who was in contention. The form of both players has helped Spurs move to second in the Premier League table, one adrift of leaders Leicester City.
Manager Jose Mourinho has described Son as world class and is hoping to tie him down to a new long-term contract. The former Manchester United manager has added his belief that the player’s character means he does not get proper recognition for his performances. Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo also won the Premier League manager of the month.
