UCL Memories: The Catalans Gunned down at Camp Nou
On This Day In 2012, 10-man Chelsea(John Terry was sent off in the 37th minute) reached the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in four years after a 2-2 draw against FC Barcelona at in the semi-final match played at Camp Nou. Ramires Santos do Nascimento and Fernando Torres were on the score sheet for the Blues while Sergio Busquets and André Iniesta scored for the home side. Torres’ stoppage time winner made him the 19th player in Champions League history to score against Real Madrid and Barca. He was the first Spaniard to do so. Lionel Messi’s failure to score in both fixtures, meant he had played his eighth game against the Blues without scoring a single goal, the most games he has played against a single opponent without a goal. Chelsea went on to win their first ever UEFA Champions League title after beating Bayern Munich in the final.
