UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE MEMORIES: BVB vs The Reds
On This Day In 2016, Liverpool staged one of the most dramatic comebacks Anfield has seen to beat Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund 4-3(Liverpool won 5-4 on aggregate) in a UEFA Europa League quarter-final match. Thanks to goals from Divock Origi, Philippe Coutinho, Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren. Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Marco Reus were also on target for the visitors. Liverpool’s four goals came from their only four shots on target in the entire game. The Reds conceded three goals at Anfield in a European tie for only the sixth time in their history. The turnaround revived memories of the so-called ‘Miracle of Istanbul’ in 2005 when they came from 3-0 down at half-time to win the Champions League final against AC Milan. Liverpool went on to reach the final where they lost 3-1 to Sevilla, allowing the Andalusian side to win the title for the third consecutive time(also a tournament record).
