UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE MEMORIES: The Phocaeans’ Scorecard
UEFA Europa League:On This Day In 2004, Olympique de Marseille beat Inter Milan 1-0(Marseille won 2-0 on aggregate) in a UEFA Cup(now known as the UEFA Europa League) quarter-final second leg match played at San Siro. Thanks to Camel Meriem’s(on loan from Bordeaux at that time) 74th minute strike. With this, Marseille became the first French team to eliminate Inter in European competition. The Phocaeans remain the only ones to have achieved this performance to date (also in 2012, in the quarter-final stages of the Champions League). Marseille went on to reach the final of the competition where they lost to eventual champions Valencia.
