Liverpool’s English midfielder Steven Gerrard

On This Day In 2014, Chelsea blew open the race for the Premier League title by ending leaders Liverpool’s 11-game winning streak with a deserved 2-0 victory at Anfield. Demba Ba gave the Blues the lead at the end of the first half after Steven Gerrard’s slip and Willian Borges da Silva capped the win with a breakaway goal in stoppage time. The result also ended Liverpool’s 16-game unbeaten streak that had seen them march to the top of the table and means the title is no longer in their control. Liverpool went on to finish the 2013/2014 Premier League season as runners-up behind eventual champions Manchester City. Chelsea also finished third on the log ahead of fourth-placed Arsenal.
